Are you feeling the Divine Energy of Spirit?

“Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life.” S&H 249:6

Powerful words by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science.  Mrs. Eddy wrote such practical and simple ideas to help us feel the divine energy of Spirit and understand the omnipotence of God.

The Christian Science Board of Directors of The Mother Church,  The First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts. established the theme for this year at the Annual meeting, 2017 embracing the concept of divine energy of Spirit in our church work.  Christian Science Churches, and Societies all over the world will be working to live and share that divine energy bringing newness of life into every action letting the light of Spirit and Love shine through.

Mary Baker Eddy set up the perfectly balanced foundation for a Universal Church with every aspect of Christian outreach, covered in publications, Churches and Reading Rooms all over the world.

This year the First Church of Christ Scientist, Boulder was able to participate in a sidewalk event celebrating the 40th anniversary creation of a walking mall on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado August 3, 4 and 5, 2017.  The Boulder Christian Science Reading room was purchased by the  members of the Boulder Church in the 1940’s directly on Pearl Street.  The outreach committee and reading room team were delighted to be able to meet and greet people from all over the world, walking down the Pearl Street Mall during the celebration. The event allowed the opportunity to let people know they can look for Christian Science Reading Rooms around the globe and they will have a friendly place to come in and read, rest and study.

The hosts were able to give smiles greeting all who walked by the table with kindness and even offered cups of cold water.   The visitors were offered opportunities to take free samples of the book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and other Christian Science literature. Attendants explained that the last 100 pages of the book were descriptions of healings that took place simply by reading the book.  Many visitors were excited by that prospect of healing and were happy to take the book.  Free Bible’s were available as the concept of  Science and Health was written as key to the scriptures and goes hand in hand for study.

The weekly Christian Science Sentinel, monthly Christian Science Journal, Herald and The Christian Science Monitor newspaper were also available for visitors to take.  Each gift publication had a large orange sticker on the back with the Church address, service times for Sunday and Wednesday and the Reading Room contact information along with the Church website. Each visitor was invited to come to the Wednesday service where they would hear about practically applying the information found in the Science and Health they had been given.  The out of area visitors were told where they could find church service times and locations, lecture locations and practitioners in the Journals we shared.  Many people just stopped to get a Christian Science Monitor and expressed how much they enjoyed the unbiased reporting.  The message from the visitors tells us how important it is to share our periodicals and services with joy and the divine energy of Spirit. People take books, and come to services because they are invited .  Offering to pick friends up or have dinner before a service is a great gift of Christian fellowship. How easy to give a cup of cold water in Christ’s name with all the tools we have to share!

We were delighted to have a family on the mall who was in Boulder for a wedding.  One of the family members worked at The Mother Church and had her Monitor pin on sharing the joy and divine energy of Spirit.

The Boulder church had just ordered business size cards with the church and reading room contact information on one side and 4 different sides with the Lord’s prayer, 23rd Psalm, Beatitudes and 10 commandments.  The children enjoyed receiving the “flash cards” with prior permission from the parent.  We also gave the cards out as bookmarks with our contact information when someone took a book.

The activity has blessed the community with friends feeling like they knew a little more about Christian Science and the Reading Room on the Pearl Street mall. International visitors were made aware of the global reach Christian Science has and will be looking for churches and reading rooms in their part of the world.  Two friends we met were in Boulder for a Physics conference working in Paris.  One guest from Spain and the other from Italy.  Both were leaving on Sunday and wanted to read the book on the airplane!

The committees to reach out and maintain the church are set up in every single church or society.  All the tools we need to share with others are at our fingertips online and physically with the publications that are perfect to regift to another in need of the message of the Truth that heals.  The Boulder church is taking the opportunity to embrace the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and make that be felt with every single church activity.  The time spent with other church family is a time to talk about how you are sharing the love with friends and letting your light shine. It is also a time to socialize sharing Christ as the way shower in getting jobs done.  We can invite our family and friends to join in the Love of sharing kindness and healing in all our committee work.  The world is looking for rest in Christ and we can share our joy and divine energy with them in the jobs we are doing.

“The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love.” SH 113:5-6

By simply living Love in all we do, the people we come in contact with the committees we serve on we can manifest and feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life!
