Thursday, November 28, 2013 is a National Day of Thanksgiving in the USA

It is also the first day of Hanukkah so a new phrase has been coined with the hybrid name of, Thanksgivukkah. This will not occur for another 70,000 years so it is a very unique occurrence.


George Washington proclaimed the first Thanksgiving and each President thereafter has written a Proclamation address expressing gratitude and Thanksgiving to and for the American people.

Share your traditions with family and friends or create some of your own if you have not started, incorporating gratitude and Thanksgiving into daily lives and actions!

The vision and the dream of the pilgrims should not be lost in 21st century technology.  We the people, need to unite in harmony, respect, kindness and love for one another.   Something to think about as you celebrate this holiday is how you fit into the growth and progress of America.  Those before us had a vision of freedom and fought to uphold the concept that all men are created equal.  Lets unite with our forefathers and live that dream together.

Truth And Halloween

Learning about  the Truth and Halloween can be a rewarding, learning experience with young kids.

Our Flagstaff, Arizona  Sunday School class went on a family adventure in Williams, Arizona at, Bearizona, a wild life drive through park.  The journey was inspiring to say the least as the kids learned what Christ Jesus tells us,  “Ye shall know the truth and the Truth shall make you free.”  We learned the Truth about Halloween and can apply the principle to all kinds of unpleasant or scary situations.  When confronted about what is real and what is not real we saw the truth about a lie.

The original fun afternoon was just to have a picnic then drive through park and walk around the baby animal area. The 3rd and 4th grade boys found a Haunted Halloween House and wanted to go through it.  The haunted house was PG13 so a parent had to go with them.  One dad stayed with a 4-year-old and 2 moms and I went with the two boys with me bringing up the end.

As we entered the haunted house we were greeted by a serpent that was alive and well.  A rather ominous welcome.  We later talked about the serpent in the Garden of Eden and the temptations we are often offered by this character in the first chapter of Genesis. We also talked about Moses and how his rod turned into a serpent and he took it by the tail and turned it back into the rod.

The sign at the entry seemed to heighten the anxiety as we entered the Haunted house.  I mentioned  we would be walking with God and not to fear the unknown as he would be right there with us.

The entry was very dark and we all went one by one into the haunted chamber.

The first sounds and sights did create a lot of fear as the haunted chamber was so dark and the images appeared real.

The kids started to scream as a hand reached out in the dark to touch them.  One of the mothers calmly shared the fact that the creatures were only in costumes and they were people pretending to be Halloween goblins and there was nothing to be afraid of.  We were in the middle of the Haunted House so we had to go back out the front or follow through to get to the light at the end.  I captured  proof of the creatures not being real by shooting the tennis shoes.  I reaffirmed what the mother had told them was so true that these were employees dressed up in costumes.  I had the shots on the camera so they need not be afraid of something evil trying to claim it was real when that was not the truth.  God was right there with us and taking us to the light.

Once we could see the light the boys were elated and ready to move on with the day.  They found a  torture area and decided to try it out.  We talked about how Jesus was nailed to the cross and how that might feel the same. We were really covering a lot of concepts in the Bible in one Halloween adventure where we learned the truth about evil as not being real and knowing that God was protecting them no matter what.   Having the photos to be able to calmly discuss the Bible connection at the next Sunday School class was very helpful.

Learning about God and his protection can be a fun adventure and applies to absolutely everything we experience, as we found the Truth in Halloween.   All the fear in the dark was NOT real.  There was nothing to be afraid of.  The people in the haunted house were just dressed in costumes and masked so we could not see the real individual employee who was kind and loving.  Once the mask is removed from any evil that appears to be real,  the Truth is then evident and all anxiety is gone.  God is all and it is all good Genesis 1:31 “And God saw everything that hehad made, and, behold it was VERY good.”  We walk through the door to the light and Love of God leaving everything that was untrue behind.

We found the Truth and what is real at Halloween.

3 Question Movie Review To Decide If You Should See “The Internhship”

Took me a week to complete my movie review as the critics have been extremely hard on the humor and content…. I have three questions for you to ask yourself before you decide to go see this movie!

1.  If the photo above is not funny to you… DON”T go see the movie your expectations will NOT be met!

2.  If you do not understand the term #googliness then this might not be for you.

3.  If you liked Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in the “Wedding Crashers” then this film IS for you!

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson humor is, what it is.. they are character actors, so be warned it is full on one liner funny!

Last Wednesday was a day full of  Cosmic Cow Pies™ so going to see #TheInternship was the perfect way to check out for 119 minutes of laughing.  External factors do play a part in even the most objective movie critics reviews no matter how good they think they are!  This is the perfect film to just be entertained and enjoy your google moment!

The story starts with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, protagonist “salesmen” who have been released from a watch company that has closed down because technology has reduced the need for telling time by looking at your wrist.

Thinking about the concept of being tied to the cell phone is sad in a sense because a watch is on your wrist all day without having to think about it and if you are depending on your phone for time, the electronic phone leash has taken over for your source to keep appointments.  I do still wear a watch but in the film you will see a boomer receptionist looking at her phone to tell the time when asked what time it is!  End of the watch story!

The two middle aged guys are now without jobs and no skills except their last century sales personalities.  The movie looks into personal motivation, the ability to adapt and to do what they do best… SELL!  In today’s world we are all selling something however the method in which we engage with a consumer has evolved into a new strategy and you will see how the new world and the old world colide to create a BIG BANG.

The movie touches on a lot of emotions, from individual human acceptance, to love and if you are watching you can see how the old school and the new school do have an important roles to play with one another in creating a balanced life in today’s world.

A prerequisite for this movie is to watch Flash Dance.
There many references to the 1983 film,  if you have not seen it you won’t “get” some of the funniest, motivational sequences.

Happy Potter concepts show up in a quidditch game with the Interns.  I had to explain  to my husband  about the game with  the broom sticks… if you haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books, the quidditch match is a sport that is very important at Hogwarts University.  In the Harry Potter series they can fly on the broom sticks… if only google could help us fly!

Conan O’Brien did a hangout on air with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson around Valentines day before the opening and you can really get some insight as to what went into the planning and production with #Google to make it fun, light and include a message!  I think we can see Veterans United +Sarah Hill  on the The Internship backdrop between Conan and Owen!

Memorial Day vs. Veterans Day

Memorial Day 2013.   The day of remembrance is always the last Monday in May.   The commemoration started after the civil war to honor those who had fallen during the conflict.

Today, Memorial Day is to remember the men and women who died while serving in the American armed forces.

This should not be confused with Veterans Day, November 11th, which celebrates the service of all U. S. military veterans.

Memorial Day marks the start of summer and many people go camping, have picnics, go hiking, boating or bar-b-que with friends.  It has also become a time where many family members go to cemeteries  to place flowers or visit loved ones that have passed.  The tradition of placing a flag on the gravesite of a Veteran is an activity that takes place in many communities around the country.

Oklahoma Tornado Victims Need Your Prayers

Today, May 20, 2013, a tornado of possibly, historic magnitude hit Moore, Oklahoma.

If you are needing help or want to give help, click on the RED CROSS site set up for Oklahoma. They need your donations and your prayers!

ABC news  is one of the hundreds of news agencies that have breaking information on what is happening.  They are updating this site on a regular basis.

Many people are waiting to help in any way possible after the devastation of today’s tornado.  The local service agencies are asking people to stay away as the first responders need to get in to help those in the rubble.

The most important thing we can do is PRAY for OKLAHOMA.  

We can also include the world and all the unrest we have going on in so many areas in our thoughts and prayers.  As we process the devastation in natural disasters of this past year  we can come together in individual neighborhoods to really love our neighbors before we are in a crises!

The Oklahoma tornado victims need your prayers and donations!  Pray For Oklahoma!

Did you know that April is Child Abuse Awareness Month?

Community Awareness Actions Can Make The World A Better Place

Flagstaff, Arizona Coconino Country Court House is the location of a major statement sharingApril as Child Abuse Awareness Month. 

Last Sunday I was out taking photos of Spring in Flagstaff, Arizona and I came across this display in the middle of the city.  The recent events in ConnecticutBoston and West Texas have really put many of us on numb with reference to sharing online.  Upon reflection of the tragedies and how people have rallied to help their neighbors, it seemed like support of projects that are trying to reach out and create awareness need our attention as well.

If one more person becomes aware of the horrible death statistics for children during April that means we have started to become conscious of things around us that might need our help and love.   

It appears that the tragedies we have experienced recently all come back to the perpetrators feeling unloved and ostracized. Maybe we can take that information and reach out to anyone that might be hurting and express love in some way.   This means we need to be aware of those around us and giving a smile, offering a helping hand and showing kindness to those that may seem different is some way.


Tribute to child abuse victims

The flags in the lawn commemorate each child that dies last year in Arizona.  

The sign in front of the flags indicate 5 children a day die from child abuse across the country.

What a wake up call to stop and think about what each of us can do to help.

April 22, 2013 there will be nation wide marches across the country to help raise awareness on child abuse.

Search child abuse awareness in your area and see what you can do to support your community. If the recent events have moved you to think about preventing tragedy before it strikes.. this might be a door to walk into.

We change the world by changing ourselves… it starts with us and and how we are thinking and processing the tragic things that are happening in our world today.

Community actions can make the world a better place and it starts with us.
